Liverpool City Council and Merseyside Police have stepped in to help a landlord evict his nightmare tenant.

The council’s private sector housing team investigated complaints of anti-social behaviour including drug dealing, noise, intimidation and fouling from dogs left alone at a property on Carlake Grove (pictured) in the city's northern suburbs.

The tenant’s behaviour was having a detrimental impact on the local community as she regularly left three noisy dogs in the flat all day, while groups of men believed to be linked to drug dealing and organised crime were also regular visitors.

The council worked with police to support the landlord, who served a Section 8 notice to evict the nuisance tenant. He has now been granted possession of the property at a Liverpool Magistrates Court hearing. Bailiffs who visited the flat subsequently found the tenant had caused thousands of pounds worth of damage.

The landlord, whose identity is being kept confidential, says: “I would like to thank the council and Merseyside Police for their assistance in this matter. Without their help, I don’t know what I would have done.”

Councillor Laura Robertson-Collins (pictured), cabinet member for neighbourhoods, adds: “Nightmare neighbours can cause untold misery for local communities. Working with partners, we can and will take action to evict those whose behaviour is having a detrimental impact on people who live close by.”

The Government has recently promised to make evicting tenants like this easier.
