Landlord TV favourite Martin Roberts hints at Strictly appearance

TV property expert Martin Roberts has hinted that he’s been lined up for the next series of Strictly Come Dancing.

The Homes Under the Hammer host has been in talks with producers since 2021, according to The Daily Star, and is just waiting to sign his contract. Roberts, 60, is no stranger to reality shows as he appeared on ITV’s I’m a Celebrity back in 2016.

At the recent Television and Radio Industries Club awards, he told the newspaper: “I’m like a Ninja Mutant Hero Turtle - I just eat pizzas. I should worry about what I eat because I had a health scare. I need to look after myself better. And certainly, if I get this TV show later in the year. I’ll have to get super fit.”

Training

Roberts, who offers three-day online property training courses branded under his name, was the brand ambassador of property training organisation Asset Academy which went into administration last April, owing creditors more than £3 million. However, he said he had little involvement in its running and was not a director, as press reports claimed.

In a previous interview with LandlordZONE, Roberts criticised the growing number of unscrupulous operators who came out of the woodwork during Covid, offering the opportunity to become property millionaires overnight.

He also spoke about wanting to raise the profile of landlords, the majority of whom are hard-working people who charge reasonable rents and run their properties well, said Roberts.

“Many of the people who feature on Homes Under the Hammer are using their hard-earned cash to turn derelict or run-down properties into decent homes,” he added. “But at the same time the government is creating more and more regulations and trying to make investing in property unattractive. It’s a real shame - because it will have a disproportionate effect on the smaller, family landlords who have one or two properties.”
