Looming Vic & Bob movie to portray landlords as 'obnoxious'

vic reeves landlords

Landlords are to get their latest outing on the silver screen within the first movie by comedians Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer, it has been reported.

But predictably it's not the image many would prefer to see the comedy pair promote.

After nearly two decades of development, Vic & Bob's film The Glove is beginning production with actors Matt Berry (The IT Crowd), Kevin Eldon (Hot Fuzz), Spencer Jones (Upstart Crow), Gina McKee (Our Friends in the North) and Dan Renton Skinner (Shooting Stars) have been snapped at a script read-through , joining the previously-announced Brian Cox (Braveheart).

The Glove stars Vic Reeves (aka Jim Moir) and Bob Mortimer. They play childhood friends who own a junk shop where they both work and live.

But the shop's profits begin to nosedive and in desperation they turn to their 'obnoxious' landlord for help as they struggle to pay their rent.

This landlord, understood to be played by Cox, informs them he is preparing to evict them from the premises. But he also gives them one chance to save their bacon; procure a famous 'training' glove used by Michael Jackson on his behalf.

The glove in a question is an infamous single white crystal-studded item that Jackson was often seen wearing on stage and also in his pop video for Billie Jean.

Auction

In the real world, in 2020 it was sold at auction for 85,000 after Jackson donated it to Unicef in 1998.

The film, which is likely to start filming later this year, will be directed by Tim Kirkby of TV show Fleabag fame reports The British Comedy Guide.

Landlords are rarely portrayed in a positive light in mainstream media whether it's 1970s TV sitcom Rising Damp or the 2016 film The Landlord.
