Landlords are being invited to join a deep dive into the Renters’ Rights Bill during a two-day online conference featuring big hitters from the property sector.
Organised by solicitor Tessa Shepperson at Landlord Law Services, the conference - on 11th and 12th March – includes property expert Kate Faulkner, who will discuss the new national landlord database/property portal and its impact on the sector, and housing advisor Julie Ford, who will explain how to work with tenants to help them pay their rent and arrears, without the need for eviction proceedings.
Property lawyer David Smith will clarify the new rules around the Decent Homes standard and the introduction of Awaab’s law, while solicitor Robin Stewart will cover Rent Repayment Orders and the new, more stringent rules being brought in by the Bill.
Other speakers are: Sean Hooker, head of redress at Property Redress, The Independent Landlord Suzanne Smith, Justin Bates KC, lawyer Sam Madge Wyld, Propertymark’s Jan Hytch, Safer Renting’s Ben Reeve Lewis and Rightmove’s David Cox. Other topics include student landlords, discrimination, bidding wars, changed eviction grounds, and enforcement.
Both days will end with a one-hour Q&A session which all speakers for that day will attend. Delegates will get access to the recordings for three months after the event.
Shepperson explains that she wants to hold a “really authoritative event” on the Bill because it’s important that people have an opportunity to understand the biggest change in landlord and tenant law for 30 years.
“We have chosen some of the best legal and landlord property brains in the business to speak to you about the impending new legislation,” she adds. “The new legislation will affect all landlords, all agents and all who work in the private rented sector. Penalties for breach can be severe, so it is important you are up to date.”
