A Tory MP has been accused of intimidating a tenant he is trying to evict from his farm.
Layla Williams says she’s caught Gary Streeter, who represents South West Devon, on CCTV trying to remove a security camera from the bungalow she live in, trying to get through a gate and staring through windows.
Williams moved in with her young son to look after Streeter’s horses in 2018 and house-sit for him, and although she no longer works for the MP, remained living on the property. She told The Times she stopped paying rent in January due to a lack of work and necessary repairs at the property.
“It has become very unsettling. The only conclusion I can draw is that he was trying to intimidate me. He has wanted me out for a long time.”
The tenant added that she was initially served with a Section 21 notice.
“Since then, every time I have complained about anything on the property or anything that was broken — he has threatened to kick me out,” she said. “I am scared to stay here…his actions, especially being an MP, have been disgraceful.”

The MP refused to comment on accusations of criminal damage but denied harassment and said he had tried to show his tenant kindness but secured the eviction order based on unpaid rent.
He told The Times, “For the past two years, to help her, we have accepted a lower rent of £550 per month for a two-bedroom bungalow in the South Hams, rather than £700 as per the tenancy agreement.
"Plymouth county court granted an order for possession within 14 days, plus judgment for the £4,400 arrears plus costs. The bailiffs will be instructed as she has still not vacated.”
Williams has since found alternative accommodation.
